What is WELCA?

American Lutheran Church Women,

Recently I was asked what WELCA is and who does WELCA do? WELCA is Women of the ELCA, but also it is the Women of American Lutheran Church. I thought now might be a good time to review some facts about WELCA.

WHO? We are not exclusive; WELCA is every woman who joins ALC. We also open our doors to women from other churches or from perhaps, no church at all.

WHAT? We are organized to help with many functions of the church — the kitchen upkeep, decorate the fellowship hall, funerals, spring salad luncheon, Christmas Tea, confirmation gifts, subscriptions to World in Season and Portals of Prayer, and coffee fellowship on Sunday mornings.

WHY? We are the women of American Lutheran Church, a community of women brought together to strengthen ourselves and others and to be Disciples of Christ.

DONATIONS: This year WELCA has been able to donate $150 to each of the following organizations: Cedar Valley Hospice, EWALU, World Hunger, Bremwood and Comp. Systems. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help WELCA function and we invite all to become an active member.

CURRENT EVENTS: Recently, the Women of ALC hosted an event of a wreath making night. Thank you to Dawn Hendershot, Danielle Meyer, Jamie Trebon, Teresa Hager and Karen Johnson for all your efforts to make this night possible. We look forward to new start of "get together's" for fun and fellowship and pray you will join us. If anyone would like to hep plan an evening, or has a creative idea they would like to share with a group, please let us know.

God's blessings,

Deb Miller, WELCA Treasurer
