EASTER WORSHIP: Sunday, March 31, 2024

EASTER WORSHIP: Sunday, March 31, 2024

EASTER SUNDAY March 31, 2024 Christ is risen! Jesus is alive, and God has swallowed up death forever. With Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome, we may feel astonished and confused, unsure of what to make of the empty tomb. But this is why we gather: to proclaim, witness, praise, and affirm the liberating reality of Christ’s death and resurrection. In word and feast, we celebrate God’s unending love, and depart to share this good news with all the world. Alleluia! Thank you, Pastor Sevaraj Periannan (Pastor Selva), for leading our service!! PRELUDE LuAnn Elliot, Mike & Jen Bistline GATHERING The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God. HYMN ELW #365: Jesus Christ is Risen Today GREETING The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. KYRIE CANTICLE OF PRAISE THANKSGIVING FOR BAPTISM PRAYER OF THE DAY God of mercy, we no longer look for Jesus among the dead, for he is alive and has become the Lord of life. Increase in our minds and hearts the risen life we share with Christ, and help us to grow as your people toward the fullness of eternal life with you, through Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen. FIRST READING: Acts 10: 34-43 Peter crosses the immense religious and social boundary that separates Jews from Gentiles in order to proclaim the good news of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, so that God’s forgiveness in Jesus’ name would reach out to all the people. PSALM: Psalm 118: 1-2, 14-24 This is the day that the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it. (Ps. 118: 24) SECOND READING: 1 Corinthians 15: 1-11 The core of the Christian faith and Paul’s preaching is the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. As the crucified and risen Christ appeared to the earliest of his followers, so we experience the presence of the Risen One in the preaching of this faith. GOSPEL ACCLAMATION GOSPEL: Mark 16: 1-8 CHILDREN’S SERMON SERMON HYMN OF THE DAY ELW #366: The Strife is O’er, The Battle is Won NICENE CREED PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION SHARING THE PEACE OFFERING OFFERTORY ELW #462 “Now We Join in Celebration” (verse 3) THE GREAT THANKSGIVING PREFACE: It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, for the glorious resurrection of our Savior Jesus Christ, the true Paschal Lamb who gave himself to take away our sin; who in dying has destroyed death, and in rising has brought us to eternal life. And so, with Mary Magdalene and Peter and all the witnesses of the resurrection, with earth and sea and all their creatures, and with angels and archangels, cherubim and seraphim, we praise your name and join their unending hymn. WORDS OF INSTITUTION THE LORD’S PRAYER INVITATION TO HOLY COMMUNION DISTRIBUTION & HYMNS HYMN ELW #491: “Come, Let Us Eat!” HYMN ELW #494: “For the Bread Which You Have Broken” HYMN #392: “Alleluia! GOOD FRIDAY WORSHIP: March 29, 2024

GOOD FRIDAY WORSHIP: March 29, 2024

OFFERING Our offering today will be received as you enter worship. You are invited to also offer up to God with a note of your disciple for Lent or your troubles and place it in the bowl for us in the service. Today is when Jesus offers his body as the perfect sacrifice. Our offering is a significant and consistent way of giving and an act of worship in response to that sacrifice. God’s ministry and mission for American Lutheran Church is completely dependent upon your faithful and generous giving – today and always. PRELUDE We gather in silence as we continue our worship. CALL TO WORSHIP (based on Hebrews 10: 1-18) When Christ came into the world, he said, “Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body you have prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. ‘See, God, I have come to do your will, for in the book it is written of Him these are offered according to the law.’ The first is abolished in order to establish the second. And it is by God’s will that we have we have been sanctified though the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. “This is the covenant that Ii will make with them after those days, says the Lords: I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds,” “I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.” PRAYER OF THE DAY Almighty God, Look with loving mercy on your family, for whom our Lord Jesus Christ was willing to be betrayed, to be given over to the hands of sinners, and to suffer death on the cross; who now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, Forever and ever. MAUNDY THURSDAY WORSHIP: March 28, 2024

MAUNDY THURSDAY WORSHIP: March 28, 2024

PRELUDE Call to Worship One: In remembrance, we gather All: to be with the One who teaches us the meaning of faithfulness. One: In remembrance, we worship, All: lifting our voices to the One who calls us to love one another. One: In remembrance, we feast All: breaking the Bread that heals us, drinking from the cup that sustains us. Call to Reconciliation How is it people will recognize us as followers of Jesus? Simply by how treat one another. Let us confess how we have not loved as Christ has loved us. Unison Prayer of Confession Too often, Holy One, we forget to love you a little bit, much less with our hearts, minds, strengths, and souls. Too easily, we forget to love our neighbors, building higher and higher walls between us. Too quickly, we forget your call to servanthood, hearing instead the accolades and applause of the world. Forgive us, God of Freedom and Hope. Bring us to the Table of grace, where we will be healed; fill us with your steadfast love; lift us to our feet so we might follow Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, into that ministry of servanthood and sacrifice that is our calling. Words of Assurance One: Here is what we have heard: Christ came to teach, to serve, to lead us into the kingdom of God. All: We will serve, so others might be set free; We will teach, so others will know the word of hope; We will love, so others will know us as Christ’s people; We will do as our servant has done. Thanks be to God. Amen. Introduction to the Bread Service Presentation of the Breads SOUR DOUGH: The Bread of pain, loss and injustice – Genesis 3: 1-7 UNLEAVENED BREAD: Following God’s call whenever it comes – Exodus 12: 29-42 SWEET BREAD: The sweetness of surprise – Matthew 4: 1-11 HYMN #480: “O Bread of Life from Heaven” PITA BREAD: Needs to be filled. – John 4: 7-15 GLUTEN-FREE BREAD: A glimpse of our different needs, yet our unity. – 1 Corinthians 8:8-13 WHEAT BREAD: Willingness to die to self – John 12: 12-26 Blessing of the Food and Word (unison) Eternal God, in the sharing of a meal your son established a new covenant for all people. Grant that by the power of your Holy Spirit, this shared meal, too, will be blessed, signifying that a life in faithful service to others may speak again to our hearts, feed our spirits, and refresh our bodies. Amen. Supper & Sharing of the Peace Offering Offertory Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with your free Spirit. Holy Communion and Tenebrae (A candle will be extinguished and there will be a moment of silence after each portion of the Tenebrae this evening. Please take this time to meditate and pray of God’s Word.) WORSHIP: Sunday, March 24, 2024

PALM/PASSION SUNDAY Welcome to worship this Palm (and Passion) Sunday. As we follow Jesus into Jerusalem, the city of his death but also his resurrection, may we experience the wonder of his love. We extend a welcome to guests who are here today. Thank you, Pastor Sevaraj Periannan (Pastor Selva), for leading our service!! INTRODUCTION This week, the center of the church’s year is one of striking contrasts: Jesus rides into Jerusalem surrounded by shouts of glory, only to be left alone to die on the cross, abandoned by even his closest friends. Mark’s gospel presents Jesus in his complete human vulnerability: agitated, grieved, scared, and forsaken. Though we lament Christ’s suffering and all human suffering, we also expect God’s salvation: in the wine and bread, Jesus promises that his death will mark a new covenant with all people. We enter this holy week thirsty for the completion of God’s astonishing work. PRELUDE ANNOUNCEMENTS PROCESSIONAL GOSPEL: Mark 11: 1-11 (Children are invited to bring their palm branches to the front.)
