"If there is no God..."

Dostoevsky, the Russian author, wrote great novels about man's search for freedom. One of his best novels is "The Brothers Karamazov." The theme of the novel, in the words of one of his characters, is: "If there is no god, all is permitted." The author's conviction was that without God there is no freedom, only chaos.
People without God substitute anything for the Supreme Being. As St. Paul says, "Their end is destruction, their God is the belly, and the glory in their shame." (Phil 3:19)
In effect, they make themselves their own God and indulge only in license. But those who believe in God that "their commonwealth is in heaven" (v.20), enjoy true freedom to be good and to do good. Godly minded people are the ones who enjoy true freedom.
John 8:36 stating, "So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed,"
